Overview / Applications

Outline This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human.

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) was initially discovered as a molecule found in platelet α-granules that promoted the proliferation of mesenchymal cells. It is now known that PDGF is produced by many kinds of cells other than platelets and possesses a wide range of biological properties.
In vitro, PDGF-BB, PDGF dimer, promotes chemotaxis in white blood cells as well as proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts and capillary endothelial cells. Clinical application of PDGF is being investigated after it has been recently found that the molecule is involved in atherosclerosis as well as angiogenesis and metastasis of solid tumors.

PDGF was found as a growth factor for mesenchymal cells contained in the platelet alpha granule. It is now known to be produced by various cells other than platelets and to have a wide range of biological activities. PDGF-BB, a PDGF dimer, promotes the growth of vascular smooth muscle, fibroblasts and capillary endothelial cells and exhibits leukocyte migration action in vitro. Its clinical application has been studied because it has been found to be involved in arteriosclerosis, and vascularization and metastasis in solid cancer.
