Acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF, acidity) is a non-glycosylated heparin-binding growth factor expressed by CNS neurons, renal cells, retina, smooth muscle cells, cells of the bone matrix, osteoblasts, astrocytes and endothelial cells. aFGF is involved in the proliferation/differentiation/survival of various types of tissue.
