Application

Overview / Applications

Outline This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human. No animal-derived ingredients were used in the synthesis and purification of this cytokine product. The Activin A cytokine is a member of the TGF-β family and is actively involved in many processes including cell proliferation/differentiation and neuron survival. Discovered by The University of Tokyo Professor Makoto Asashima, Activin A shows a distinct concentration distribution during embryogenesis and it has been reported that these concentration levels influence cell differentiation. The active form of Activin A is neutralized by inhibin and follistatin.
This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human.

Source: E. coli expressed human activin A
Formulation: Lyophilized with no additives
Molecular Weight: 26,000 (homodimer)
Biological activity:
The ED50 is less than 2.0 ng/mL determined by its ability to inhibit the proliferation of mouse MPC-11 cells, corresponding to a specific activity of > 5 x 105 units/mg.
Reconstitution: Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1 ~ 1.0 mg/mL. DO NOT VORTEX. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
Endotoxin: Less than 0.1 ng/μg
Caution: Centrifuge the vial prior to opening, Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycle.
Activin A is a cytokine classified to TGF-β family. It exhibits many activities including cell proliferation and differentiation, and survival of nerve cells. It has been reported that, during embryogenesis, a concentration gradient develops and differentiating organs are decided depending on the concentration. The activity of Activin A is neutralized by inhibin and follistatin.
