Interleukin-1β(IL-1β),Human,recombinant

When the IL-1 was first discovered, it was initially called lymphocyte-activating factor (LAF) because it activates T cells. IL-1 cytokines are released by activated macrophages and monocytes and believed to play an important role in the immune and inflammatory response.
IL-1α and IL-1β share 62% homology in the amino acid sequences and have been shown to exhibit almost identical biological activities.
What distinguishes IL-1α and IL-1β are the extent to which they are glycosylated and the fact that the IL-1β precursor needs to be cleaved by ICE to become the biologically active mature IL-1β whereas IL-1α shows significant activity in its precursor form.
