Overview / Applications

Outline Like hormones, autacoids exhibit strong bioactivity in small amounts, but unlike hormones they have no particular production organ, and they refer to biologically active substances expressing strong physiological effects immediately at the site of production. Chemically, they are classified into amines (such as histamine and serotonin), peptides (such as bradykinin and angiotensin) and fatty acids (such as prostaglandin).In general, [1] growth factors are substances that increase the number, weight, or volume of cells, tissues, organs, or individuals. For cells, [2] there are those changing the morphology and enlarging the cells and those promoting cell division. The former includes neurogrowth factor and the latter includes epidermal growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, and T cell growth factor. They are generally proteinous and act on the target cells through specific receptors.
It is used for the study of drugs to treat Parkinson's disease because it exhibits a neurotrophic action on dopaminergic neurons.
