Overview/ Performance
Tau is a microtubule-associated protein. It is mainly expressed in neurons of the central nervous system and regulates the stability of microtubules. In the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease, phosphorylated Tau aggregates and forms neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). There is evidence suggesting that the extent of NFTs correlates with the severity of dementia. Therefore, Tau has been studied extensively to better understand the causes of Alzheimer’s disease and to develop novel therapeutics.
Studies suggest that the concentration of Tau and phosphorylated Tau in the cerebrospinal fluid is elevated in patients with Alzheimer’s disease compared with non-dementia patients.
The kit facilitates the measurement of Tau, and recognizes any Tau regardless of the state of phosphorylation.

Principles
It is a sandwich ELISA assay that combines the use of antibodies that recognize the sequences of the middle and C-terminal region of Tau.

Measurements of human CSF
CSF collected from non-dementia, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients were analyzed with our ELISA kit and a competitor’s product.

The differences between non-dementia, MCI, and AD groups were more significant when measured with our kit.
Correlation with Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores
The correlation between MMSE scores and the concentration of Tau was examined. Samples were collected from CSF and measured using our ELISA kit.

There was a correlation between the concentration of Tau and MMSE score. The correlation was stronger when Tau concentration was measured using our product.
