Dementia is a set of symptoms including memory loss, difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language, which is caused by some brain disease. There are some types of dementia, it is said that the most common dementia is Alzheimer's disease. In the brain of the patients, Amyloid β (Aβ) accumulation occurs about 20 years before the onset of the disease, then neurodegeneration occurs after Tau accumulation.
FUJIFILM Wako offers antibodies which specifically recognize Aβ or Tau for Alzheimer's disease, Aβ or Tau related research.

Aβ antibody

Aβ is accumulated in the brain tissue of Alzheimer’s disease patients. The accumulation of Aβ called “Senile plaque” can be observed in the tissue by staining with Aβ specific antibody. Aβ or Aβ polymerized Aβ oligomer is considered as a possible factor of Alzheimer’s disease, therefore there are some research projects targeting Aβ. We offer various Aβ specific monoclonal antibodies which are developed by Takeda Pharmaceutical, Ltd. These antibodies have been used by many researchers, and used in several papers.

Tau antibody

Tau is one of a microtubule-associated protein, which is mainly expressed in neurons of the central nervous system and regulates the stability of microtubules. In the brain of Alzheimer’s disease, the accumulation of phosphorylated Tau called Neurofibrillary tangles is observed.
From the fact that Tau aggregates in the brain of Alzheimer’s disease, there are some studies against Tau as a possible cause of the disease. Tau has over 40 sites of phosphorylation (Fig. 1) and 6 isoforms (Fig. 2). We offer the antibodies specific for some phosphorylation sites and isoforms.
