Interleukin-1α(IL-1α), Human, recombinant

Produced by a wide variety of cells, the interleukin-1 (IL-1) is known as cytokine with a wide range of biological activities in inflammatory response as well as the immune system, the nervous system, the endocrine system, hematopoeisis and other functions.
IL-1α and IL-1β bind to the same receptors. Both exhibit almost identical biological activity and are not known to possess differing biological activities. The IL-1β precursor is cleaved by capsase 1 to produce the biologically active mature IL-1β. However, it has been reported that IL-1α, unlike IL-1β, shows significant activity in its precursor form.
IL-1 is known as a cytokine produced by various cells and having various biological activities such as inflammatory reaction in a wide range including the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system, and hematopoietic system. IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta bind to the same receptor and have almost the same biological activity. Biological activity specific to either is unknown. IL-1 beta develops biological activity when it is processed from a precursor to a mature one by caspase-1, whereas IL-1 alpha is reported to have a sufficient activity even in a precursor.
