NAP-2 is a member of CXC chemokine family and mediated through CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors. It is produced in leukocytes by processing of a precursor, platelet basic protein (PBP). It attracts and activates neutrophils. This product has 4 conserved cysteine residues typical of CXC chemokines. It also has an ELR (Glu-Leu-Arg) motif binding to CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors like IL-8 and GRO.
