Product Overview

Tau is a microtubule-associated protein predominantly expressed in the central nervous system and is a major component of the neurofibrillary tangles found in the neurons of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Because the extent of Tau accumulation in the brain correlates with the severity of cognitive impairment, Tau is considered to play a central role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Diseases characterized by Tau accumulation are collectively referred to as tauopathies, and the specific isoforms that accumulate differ depending on the disease. Additionally, Tau in neurofibrillary tangles is highly phosphorylated, and this phosphorylation is implicated in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease.
“Anti Human/Mouse/Rat Tau, Rat Monoclonal Antibody(RTM38)” is a rat monoclonal antibody that recognizes total tau in humans, mice, and rats. It can be used for immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.

Overview / Applications

Outline This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human.Tau is one type of microtubule-binding protein that is primarily expressed within the neurons of the central nervous system and is involved in the modulation of microtubule stability. In Alzheimer's disease, the formation of neurofibrillary tangles with accumulated phosphorylated Tau proteins is known to occur. Since correlations between the occurrence frequency of neurofibrillary tangles and severity of dementia were reported, neurofibrillary tangles have been studied for determination of the causes and development of therapeutic agents for Alzheimer's disease.
This product is a rat monoclonal antibody which recognizes Tau of human, mouse and rat. It recognizes all Tau regardless of phosphorylation modification or isoform.
[Antigen] Mouse Tau recombinant
[Epitope] Tau 417 - 441 a.a.
[Antibody subclass] rat IgG2a kappa
[Species cross reactivity] human, mouse and rat
[Applications] Western blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry
