Marine Natural Products-- Phosphatase Inhibitor

Okadaic acid is a causative agent of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning isolated from the sponge
Halichondria Okadai. Okadaic Acid exhibits various activities as follows:

  1. Contractile effect on smooth muscles in Ca2+ free solution.

  2. Non-TPA type promoting agent of carcinogenesis.

  3. Acceleration of protein phosphorylation through the specific inhibition of phosphatase.

Solubility
  • Soluble in ether, acetone and ethyl acetate.

  • Very slightly soluble in chloroform and methanol.

  • Practically insoluble in water and n-hexane
