Application
Overview / Applications
Outline | A kind of the body coenzyme vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is of the type that has a cyano group attached to a cobalt atom and is referred to as cyanocobalamin. Other substitution homologues are present in the body, including this product, which has a methyl group instead of the cyano group. It is involved in the transmethylation reaction in which methionine is synthesized from homocysteine. It not only promotes the utilization of the stored type of folic acid through the methionine synthesis reaction but it is also involved in the metabolism of nucleic acids such as the methylation of t-RNA. It has been reported to promote the synthesis of nucleic acids in neurons and the myelination of nerve fibers in nerve tissue cells. Methylcobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 with higher activity and is transported efficiently particularly to nerve tissue, where it promotes the transmethylation reaction in the production process of nucleic acids, neurotransmitters, phospholipids (phosphatidyl serine, choline, etc.), resulting in the enhanced anti-stress activity of B12 in addition to the activity to promote amino acid metabolism. |
