| Outline | Ammonium chloride is also called sal ammoniac. It is stable in the air but it is slightly hygroscopic and tends to solidfy during storage. It generates ammonia when mixed with a strong base such as sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide. It sublimes on ignition at about 340 degrees C with white fumes. Although its solution is neutral to weakly acidic, it releases ammonia by heating and becomes acidic.It is used for preparation of various media.DNase activity and RNase activity have been confirmed as the grade for molecular biology. |
