Features
Given that the level of orexin A in the cerebrospinal fluid is significantly decreased in patients with narcolepsy, a type of sleep disorder, orexin A is thought to play an important role in controlling sleep functions. The level of orexin A has been measured conventionally using radioimmunoassay. However, due to the need for radioisotopes (RI), the measurements could only be performed at dedicated institutions with proper equipment.
This product is an ELISA kit that enables simple measurements of orexin A from human cerebrospinal fluid, as well as rat cerebrospinal fluid, serum, and plasma without the need for radioisotope.
- No need for RIs
- High sensitivity (4.69-300 pg/mL)
- Only a small amount of samples is needed (25 μL)
-
Performance
Standard curve range 4.69~300 pg/mL Samples human cerebrospinal fluid, rat cerebrospinal fluid, rat plasma, rat serum※1 Necessary amount of sample 25 μL Duration of measurement About 20 hours Within-run reproducibility CV<5 % Between-run reproducibility CV<16 % ※1: The levels of orexin A in normal human plasma and serum, as well as in wild-type mouse plasma and serum, are undetectable using the kit. The level may be high enough to be detected if orexin A was added or Orexin A was overexpressed.

These assays demonstrated that the kit is highly quantitative for human and rat samples.
Overview / Applications
Outline | This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human. Orexin is considered to have a function in regulating wakefulness and sleep because orexin A was decreased remarkably in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with narcolepsy, a sleep disorder. This product is an ELISA kit for simple measurement of orexin A in human cerebrospinal fluid as well as rat cerebrospinal fluid, serum and plasma. The kit does not cross-react with orexin B. [Applicapable sample] human cerebrospinal fluid, rat plasma, serum, cerebrospinal fluid [Standard curve range] 4.69-300 pg/mL [Sample volume] 25uL [Reference] Ono, T., et al.: Psychiatry Clin Neurosci. 72, 11, 849 (2018). |
