Product Overview

SafeCap™ Wako 10% Formalin Neutral Buffer Solution is Fujifilm Wako’s 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin dispensed into the exposure-prevention container, SafeCap™. Formalin is contained within the cap, so that when a sample is placed inside the container and the cap is screwed on tightly, a special film in the cap is broken open, which allows formalin to flow into the container. This eliminates exposure to formalin during sample fixation, enabling safer handling of formalin than ever before.
Features
- Eliminates exposure to formalin and enables safer fixation of tissue
- Simply by tightening the cap after placing a sample in the container, the container is filled with formalin
- Wide-mouth container that facilitates the easier placement of a sample
- Dispense Fujifilm Wako’s 10% Formalin Neutral Buffer Solution (Product No. 062-01661)
- Neutral buffered formalin reduce the effect of acid on samples
What is SafeCap™?
SafeCap™ is a container that has an exposure-prevention function. Formalin is contained within the cap, so that when a sample is placed inside the container and the cap is screwed on tightly, a special film in the cap is broken open, which allows formalin to flow into the container. This prevents exposure to formalin prior to fixation.

How to use
(1) Open the cap
(2) Place the sample in the container
(3) Tighten the cap until it cannot be turned any further
(4) Slowly tilt the container and check that the neutral buffered formalin solution flows into the container.
[Notes]
- Formalin may take some time to fully release into the container because the flow of liquid occurs with air exchange between the container and the cap.
- Do not shake vigorously or tighten the cap excessively, as this may cause breakage or leakage.
Holders for SafeCap™ Wako
Fujifilm Wako also offers the holders (sold separately, Scheduled for release in late March 2026) that are useful for preventing the SafeCap™ Wako from tipping over. The 10 mL holder accommodates a 10 mL container, and the 30 mL holder accommodates 25 mL and 30 mL containers.
FAQ
About the product
- What is the neutral buffered formalin that is used?
- The neutral buffered formalin used in this product is identical to Fujifilm Wako’s 10% Formalin Neutral Buffer Solution (Product No. 062-01661). The neutral buffered formalin is adjusted to a pH of about 7.4 by the addition of sodium phosphate to formalin to reduce the effect of formic acid on tissues.
- Even when I screw the cap on, formalin solution does not fill immediately.
- Formalin does not flow in immediately, even when the cap is screwed on. When the container is tilted, the solution flows down slowly due to air exchange inside the container and inside the cap. Do not shake vigorously or tighten the cap excessively, as this may cause breakage or leakage.
- What is the size of the container?
- Please refer to the following for the sizes of each container.

- How should I store this product?
- As formaldehyde can undergo photooxidation, avoid direct sunlight and store in a dark place.
