Outline	Purpose of use: A fixative used frequently in general.Fixatives arrests putrefaction of cells and tissues due to autolysis and captures structures in the same conditions as those during their lifetimes. Proteins, which are principal constituents of tissues and cells, are stabilized and insolubilized using various drugs to maintain the cell components in the condition as close as possible to that while they were alive.Merit: It is used in general staining. It is most suited to the silver impregnation. It is good for staining adipose and nerve tissues in cryosections. As faults, occurrence of formalin pigment and non-suitability to fixation of glycogen and enzymes are given.Formaldehyde content: 4 %
