Overview

Podoplanin, a type I transmembrane protein having a C-terminal transmembrane region, is a glycoprotein with platelet-aggregating activity consisting of 162 and 172 amino acids in humans and mice, respectively. Podoplanin, also called Aggrus or T1α, is expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells but not in vascular endothelial cells, and therefore has been utilized as a marker specific to lymphatic vessels. In brain tumors, expression of podoplanin has been known to be increased with increasing WHO grade (II, III, and IV). C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2) acts as the receptor of podoplanin, which contains PLAG2 and PLAG3 domains involved in the binding.

This antibody recognizes Glu38-Val51 across PLAG2 and PLAG3 domains of human podoplanin.
