IL-6 ELISA Kits
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces the differentiation of B cells into antibody-producing cells and plays a broad and important role in immune responses, inflammatory reactions, and antibody production. IL-6 is also implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory conditions such as gout, and cytokine storms that cause acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). What is IL-6?
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces the differentiation of B cells into antibody-producing cells and plays a broad and important role in immune responses, inflammatory reactions, and antibody production. IL-6 is produced and secreted by a variety of cell types, including T cells, monocytes, fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and endothelial cells. At the cell surface, IL-6 binds to a receptor complex comprising IL-6 receptor α (IL-6Rα) and the co-receptor gp130, triggering downstream signaling. A well-known downstream signaling pathway of IL-6 is the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 pathway, in which JAK2 binds to tyrosine residues on gp130 and activates STAT3 in the cytoplasm, leading to transcriptional activation of various gene clusters1).
IL-6 is also implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory conditions such as gout, and cytokine storms leading to COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In rheumatoid arthritis, IL-6 exerts a wide range of effects, including T cell activation, production of rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP antibodies (ACPA), increased CRP, anemia and thrombocytosis, osteoclast differentiation, cartilage destruction via MMP production, and synovial angiogenesis via VEGF production2). In COVID-19-associated cytokine storms, the cooperative action of the transcription factors NF-κB and STAT3 activates the IL-6 amplification circuit, driving excessive production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The IL-6/STAT3 pathway has consequently gained attention as a therapeutic target3).
LBIS™ Human IL-6 ELISA Kit
LBIS™ Human IL-6 ELISA Kit is a sandwich ELISA kit for the quantitative measurement of human IL-6. This kit enables highly sensitive quantification of IL-6 in biological samples. The standard included in the kit is a recombinant protein produced in Escherichia coli.
