s-IgA ELISA Kits
Secretory IgA (s-IgA) is a type of immunoglobulin that mainly occurs in exocrine secretion and plays an important role in protection from infection on the mucosa of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. The level of s-IgA in human saliva is reportedly increased by acute stress and decreased by chronic stress, giving it utility as a stress biomarker. Fujifilm Wako supply an ELISA kit for measuring s-IgA levels in human saliva.
What is secretory IgA (s-IgA)?
Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is a type of immunoglobulin that provides protection from infection. It is mainly distributed in serum and exocrine gland secretions. After IgG, it is the second most abundant immunoglobulin in serum and the most abundant immunoglobulin in exocrine secretions. Human IgA, which has two subclasses, IgA1 and IgA2, occurs mainly as a monomer in serum and as a dimer in secretions1).
Secretory IgA (s-IgA) is an IgA to which a secretory component (SC) is bound, basically occurring as a dimer but also as tetramer, etc. IgA in secretions occurs principally as s-IgA, which plays an important role in protection from infection on the mucosa of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts.
s-IgA is also found in human saliva and produced in plasma cells in the salivary glands. The level of s-IgA in human saliva is reportedly increased by acute stress2) and decreased by chronic stress3) 4), giving it utility as a stress biomarker.
