Product Overview
Tau is a microtubule-associated protein predominantly expressed in the central nervous system and is a major component of the neurofibrillary tangles found in the neurons of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Because the extent of Tau accumulation in the brain correlates with the severity of cognitive impairment, Tau is considered to play a central role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Diseases characterized by Tau accumulation are collectively referred to as tauopathies, and the specific isoforms that accumulate differ depending on the disease. Additionally, Tau in neurofibrillary tangles is highly phosphorylated, and this phosphorylation is implicated in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease.
“Anti Human Tau, Rat Monoclonal Antibody(RTM49)” is a rat monoclonal antibody that recognizes total tau in humans. It can be used for immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.

FAQ
About Antibody
- Which region of the Tau protein does this antibody recognize?
- This antibody recognizes the N-terminal region of the Tau protein (amino acids 2 - 44).
- What is the subclass of this antibody?
- The subclass of this antibody is IgG1·κ.
- Has this antibody been affinity purified?
- Yes, it has been affinity purified using Protein G.
- What is the concentration of this antibody?
- The specification for protein concentration is 1.0 - 1.2 mg/mL.
About Application
- What animals can this antibody be used for?
- Fujifilm Wako has confirmed that it can be used for humans. Based on Western blotting and immunohistochemistry data, it is thought that this antibody doesn’t react to Tau in mice and rats (see "Data" on this page).Other species have not been tested.
Overview / Applications
| Outline | This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human. Tau is one of microtubule-associated proteins, mainly expressed in the central nervous system neurons, and it adjusts the stabilization of microtubules. In the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients, it is reported that neurofibrillary tangles are caused by accumulation of phosphorylated Tau, and the extent of its appearance correlates with the severity of dementia. Therefore, Tau is studied for investigating the cause of Alzheimer's disease and developing therapeutic drugs. This product is a rat monoclonal antibody which recognizes human Tau. It recognizes all Tau regardless of phosphorylation modification or isoform. [Antigen] human Tau full length recombinant [Epitope] Tau 2-44a.a.
