Polymer Science

Polymerization methods are classified into gas-phase polymerization, liquid-phase polymerization (suspension/emulsion/solution/bulk polymerization) and solid-phase polymerization, depending on the correlation among the physical properties of the monomers, polymers, polymerization initiators, and solvents. In general, any of the suspension polymerization, emulsion polymerization, solution polymerization, and bulk polymerization can be used for radical polymerization. Bulk polymerization is often used for polycondensation and solution polymerization are often used for ion polymerization, respectively. A polymerization method is selected depending on the type of the desired polymer.
FUJIFILM Wako have been selling azo polymerization initiators with various properties for many years. We also deal with original photopolymerization initiators that generate active species such as acids, bases, and radicals to be produced through photoirradiation. In addition, we offer a wide selection of polymerization inhibitors, such as hydroquinone and nitrosamine series, to be added to store a radical polymerizable monomer that is easily polymerized under the influence of light and heat.
We also introduce RAFT agents effective for the synthesis of block polymers or polymers with narrow molecular weight distribution. RAFT agents are chain transfer agents with a thiocarbonylthio group. RAFT polymerization is a form of living radical polymerization and was reported by Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in 1998. We have a track record in the study of polymerization using RAFT agents. Please contact us if you have any questions.
