Cancer (malignant tumor, malignant neoplasm) is a disease caused by cancer cells that grow out of normal control, invade (infiltrate) surrounding tissues, or metastasize to other organs and tissues. Cancer research has greatly progressed with the advance of molecular biology, and it has been clarified that gene expression, intracellular metabolism, and surrounding microenvironment of cancer cells are greatly different from those of ordinary cells.
