Anti EGFR Antibodies
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) binds to EGF and belongs to the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases. EGFR is crucial for cell proliferation, and mutations or overexpression of EGFR have been observed in various types of human cancers. Notably, EGFR overexpression is associated with the progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis of cancers, including head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer.
Fujifilm Wako offers mouse monoclonal antibodies against human EGFR, suitable for use in immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and Western blotting.
What is EGFR?
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) binds to EGF and belongs to the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases. The ErbB family includes EGFR (ErbB1, HER1), as well as ErbB2 (HER2), ErbB3 (HER3), and ErbB4 (HER4). When a ligand binds to EGFR, it facilitates dimerization with another ErbB family receptor, resulting in the phosphorylation of tyrosine residues at EGFR autophosphorylation sites. This triggers downstream signaling, leading to the activation of gene expression and other cellular processes. The downstream signaling pathways of EGFR include the MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and Jak/STAT pathways.
EGFR is crucial for cell proliferation, and mutations or overexpression of EGFR have been observed in various types of human cancers. Notably, EGFR overexpression is associated with the progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis of cancers, including head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer1). Inhibitors targeting EGFR have been approved as therapeutic agents for treating cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer.
