| Outline | The product developed as an estrogen analog is used as a drug used for prophylactic therapy of breast cancer. It is known to selectively bind to estrogen receptors and is also called SERM (selective estrogen receptor modifier). It is an interesting compound because of its dual effects in bone and heart and other tissues, it has estrogen-agonist effects, whereas in the breast and uterus, it shows estrogen-antagonist effects. The mechanism of its selective binding to estrogen receptors is not yet elucidated, but it is considered to be deeply associated with diseases such as breast cancer and osteoporosis. |
