GMO Detection Reagents

An example of industrial utilization of a genetically modified organism (GMO) is a genetically modified crop to which a useful trait is introduced. While there are merits, including that genetic modification confers resistance to diseases or noxious insects and enables stable production of crops, there are also concerns among consumers about the consumption of genetically modified crops.

Since April 2001, the Consumer Affairs Agency in Japan has required labeling of genetically modified agricultural products and their processed products based on the quality labeling system of the JAS Act so that consumers can know whether their foods are genetically modified or not. At present, analysis using PCR and LAMP is used for the detection of gene recombinant crops.

Fujifilm Wako provides GMO detection reagents from NIPPON GENE that comply with the test methods announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare.
