It is permeable across the plasma membrane of living cells, and after binding to thiols in the cells, it can be observed for sustained period of time. It also exhibits fluorescence through hydrolysis by intracellular esterases after permeating into the cell. The measured wavelengths are: λex = 492 nm, λem = 516 nm.
