Outline	It reacts specifically with primary hydroxy group, secondary hydroxy group, and phenolic hydroxy group. However, its reactivity with secondary hydroxy group with steric hindrance depends on the degree of such hindrance.The product hardly reacts with a tertiary hydroxy group.It is useful for analysis of various drugs with a hydroxy group, steroid hormones, bile acid, and prostaglandins, etc.Some reaction rates (esterification rates) are shown below: Cortisol (21prim) 100 %, Androsterone (3alpha, axial) 12 %, Lithocholate (3alpha, eq.) 53 %, Isoandrosterone (3beta, eq.) 20 %, 11alpha-Hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione (11alpha, eq.) 0 %, 11beta-Hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione (11beta, eq.) 0 %, 17alpha-Hydroxy-5alpha-androstan-3-one (17alpha, quasi-ax.) 7 %, Dihydrotestosterone (17beta, quasi-eq.) 7 %, Estrone (3, phenolic) 72 %.Detection: Fluorescence (lambda ex = 370 nm, lambda em = 470 nm) Precolumn Functional moiety: alcoholic hydroxy group
