C18 column, analytical validation supported

Wakopak® Wakosil®-Ⅱ 3C18 HG, RS, AR

  • Completely porous, spherical packing agent with a diameter of 3 μm.
  • The number of theoretical plates and resolution are improved compared with the 5 μm packing agent (≥100,000 theoretical plates/m). Therefore, it is possible to shorten the column.
  • Line-up three types, HG, RS, and AR, as in the case of the 5C18 Series, and facilitate the migration of analytical conditions.
  • Solvent usage is reduced, thus economizing on resources.
  • Sample microsizing and high-sensitivity analysis are possible.
  • Can be used in LC/MS.

Features of semi-micro columns

Semi-micro columns with an inside diameter of 1.0 to 2.0 mm can be used at a lower flow rate than a general-purpose column to reduce the amount of solvent used. And semi-micro columns are suitable for use in LC/MS. In addition, analysis is possible with a small amount of sample by improved sensitivity. For example, when columns with inside diameters of 2.0 mm and 4.6 mm are compared, the ratio of cross-sectional areas is approximately 1/5; therefore, the sensitivity is increased by a factor of approximately 5, and the amount of solvent consumed is approximately 1/5.

Data comparison between 3 mm and 4.6 mm internal diameter columns

A general-purpose column with an internal diameter of 3.0 mm achieves a solvent consumption of approximately 1/2 and approximately double the sensitivity with the equipment available presently, in contrast to the equipment responding to the semi-micro column with the detector cell volume.
