Overview
The most general method to obtain amide or ester compounds is dehydration condensation reaction with activation of carboxylic acid. In general, carbodiimides (WSC, DCC) are widely used as a condensing agent from the viewpoint of reactivity and economic efficiency. However they have drawbacks such as skin sensitization and removal of by-products from reaction mixture.
The novel triazine condensing agent (DMT-MM) shown in here can be used under similar reaction conditions as WSC and DCC. And also, DMT-MM can be used in water or aprotic solvent. The condensation reaction proceeds in hydrous organic solvents and there is no need to dehydrate solvents.
Features
- Useful for esterification, amidation and peptide synthesis
- In amidation, water and lower alcohols such as methanol can be used as a reaction solvent.
- Possible to do base-free reaction using DMT-MM
- By-products are water-soluble and can be easily removed by washing with water at extraction/separation.
