Reverse Phase Chromatography (C1 (TMS), C4, C8)

Liquid chromatography (LC) is a commonly used method for separating mixtures for qualitative and quantitative analysis, utilizing the difference in polarity between the analyte in the mobile phase and the packing agent.
In LC, when the polarity of the packing agent is lower than that of the mobile phase, it is called reverse phase chromatography; conversely, when the polarity of the packing agent is higher than that of the mobile phase, it is called normal phase chromatography.
The packing agent (column) and mobile phase (solvent) in LC greatly affect the separation of analytes, so it is important to select the column and solvent to match the analyte.

In reverse phase chromatography, columns packed with octadecyl group (C18, ODS) modified silica gels are commonly used, but if you want to elute strongly retained compounds quickly or if the ratio of organic solvents in the mobile phase cannot be increased, columns with low carbon content and short alkyl chain lengths like trimethylsilyl (C1, TMS), butyl (C4), or octyl (C8) groups are more effective than those with ODS.

Fujifilm Wako offers the Wakopak® Wakosil® series of columns packed with TMS, C4, and C8 modified silica gels. The following product pages provide information on each column and its application data.
