Building Block for Organic Thin Film Solar Cells

Growing anxiety concerning nuclear power generation has led energy research to focus on natural and renewable energy generation projects. Solar photovoltaic energy has continued to attract attention as a clean and renewable energy source. Manufacturing the current generation of silicon solar cells require advanced equipment to handle high temperatures and vacuum environment. These conditions require demanding and complex operations resulting in increased costs and downtime. Current research has focused on development of Organic-based Solar Cells. Using organic substances, next-generation cells can be manufactured at room temperature. Intermediates that are useful as materials for organic thin film solar cells are shown here.
