Flow Reaction Catalyst
Flow reactions using immobilized catalysts (solid catalysts and solid-phase catalysts) have advantages such as automation, miniaturization of equipment, and reduction of thermal energy. If catalyst types and column sizes are changed, they can be applied to a wide range of reactions while simultaneously controlling production amounts. In addition, they are advantageous in the field of pharmaceuticals and electronic materials because the residual catalyst amounts in products are very small and ideal for green sustainable chemistry because they do not discharge metal wastes. However, immobilization of catalysts on a supports causes issues such as reduced catalytic activity, increased column pressure during flowing, and changes in the liquid feeding state due to swelling and contraction of the support. In addition, it is necessary to study the type of support, particle size, and pore size of a support as well as the fixation method of catalysts, quantity of catalysts in the column, and adjustment of back pressure.
For these issues, FUJIFILM Wako propose catalysts for flow reactions that can reduce loss of pressure, as well as highly active catalysts that can react even at atmospheric pressure.
