Overview / Applications
| Outline | This is a washing solution used in the PAS (Periodic Acid Schiff) reaction, which is a polysaccharide staining method.PAS reaction: It was originally a staining method for polysaccharides but has been used as a staining method for carbohydrates in general involving the demonstration of glycogen and mucus substances, the identification of pigments and cell granules, fungi and amoeba, and the discrimination of renal glomerulus lesions. The principle of the reaction involves oxidization of carbohydrates by periodic acid and staining of resultant aldehydes to red-purple by Schiff's reagent. |
