| Outline | Specialized potassium bromide formed into a clear colorless cube with a reduced infrared absorption spectrum background value. It is used for applying and sandwiching a liquid sample. Potassium bromide is originally hygroscopic, and absorbed moisture will cause a peak for water to appear in the IR measurement area, resulting in an increase in the background value. This crystalline potassium bromide has reduced hygroscopic tendency due to its small surface area as compared to powder and granule products. It is powdered before use when performing a precise IR analysis of a solid sample. Compared to the powder type, this crystal block absorbs less moisture (OH group). |
