Overview / Applications

Outline An enzyme substrate for kinase. Phosphoenolpyruvate is a phosphate ester of the enol type of pyruvic acid, and is an important intermediate of glucose metabolism with a high-energy phosphate bond. Phosphoenolpyruvate is produced from 2-phosphoglycerate by dehydration reaction catalyzed by enolase, and pyruvate kinase helps provide a phosphate group for ADP to produce ATP, resulting in pyruvic acid.
