Overview / Applications
| Outline | The product acts on serine protease as a highly specific inhibitor. It is therefore often added to crude enzyme solution to prevent the target enzyme from being decomposed by other coexistent proteases. Its specificity is considered to be due to some similarity of PMSF with the substrate of serine protease. It is also widely used as a reagent to study chemical modifications of serine protease because it generates a sulfonyl form of a serine residue in a specific manner. |
