Outline	Autacoids are biologically active substances that, like hormones, exhibit strong bioactivity at extremely low concentrations, but unlike hormones exhibit the strong bioactivity not in a particular producing organ but at the site where it is produced. In chemical terms, autacoids are classified into amines (such as histamine and serotonin), peptides (such as bradykinin and angiotensin) and fatty acids (such as prostaglandin).Prostaglandins have a complex biosynthesis pathway, and the unsaturated fatty acid or arachidonic acid is a precursor that is present in the largest quantity.Prostaglandins are distributed throughout the body including the prostate.Inhibitors of prostaglandin biosynthesis include non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs such as indomethacin, phenylbutazone and aspirin, and inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis is attracting attention as one of the antiinflammatory mechanisms of these drugs.The Prostaglandin E series increases the sensitivity of pain sensation acceptors for algesic substances such as bradykinin.Myometrium contraction, fever (third ventricle infusion), inhibition of gastric secretion, dilation of peripheral vessels, hypotension, immunosuppression, enhancement of capillary permeability (induction of inflammation).
