Outline	This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human. A proteinase (proteolytic enzyme) derived from the unripe fruit of the papaya (pawpaw) tree (Carica papaya). Papain has been used e.g. in the analysis of immunoglobulins. Unit Definition: One unit hydrolyzes 1 m mole of N-a-benzoyl-DL-arginine-p-nitroanilide.HCl per minute at pH 7.5, 25 degrees C. Optimum: pH: 6.7 - 7.0 Isoelectric point: 8.75 Solubility: Water (0.1 g --> 100 mL) LD₅₀ (rat orl) 4 gm/mg
