Overview / Applications
| Outline | The colloidal iron staining is a method in which colloidal trivalent iron (Fe2O3) is adhered to acid mucopolysaccharides and detected by Prussian blue reaction. Acid mucopolysaccharides are stained in blue. It is applicable to detection of acid mucopolysaccharides under light and electron microscopy in the fields of pathohistology, clinical pathology and anatomy. Acid mucopolysaccharides in subcutaneous connective tissue, aorta, umbilical cord, etc. are stained blue in fine fibrous nets. Intra-epithelial muci such as mast cell granules, goblet cells in the intestines, mucous cells in the salivary glands, mucous glands in the trachea and uterine vagina are stained blue. |
