| Outline | Podocalyxin is a member of the CD34 family of type I transmembrane sialomucins. It is expressed in many normal cells such as renal podocytes and endothelial cells. It is also expressed in many types of tumors including colorectal cancers, breast cancers, and brain tumors. Overexpression of podocalyxin is an independent predictor of progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis. Recent studies indicate that the glycosylation of podocalyxin change depending on the state of the cells. Anti human podocalyxin, monoclonal antibody (PcMab-47b) is established against recombinant human podocalyxin. This antibody recognized endogenous podocalyxin expressing cancer cell lines and normal cells independently of glycosylation.
