QI need further information about activated carbon.

A

What is activated carbon? The activated carbon is just a charcoal which contains fine pores made by reacting carbon materials such as coal and palm grain as raw materials with gas and chemicals at high temperature.

【Manufacturing method】
There are two manufacturing methods in general: steam activation method or chemical activation method. Depending on the material and manufacturing method, the structure of actively carbonized pore is diverse and various, so the properties such as adsorbable substances and adsorption performance change.

【Steam activation method】
Manifacturing method by making the carbon react with combustion gas containing water vapor and carbon dioxide gas - The material is heated slowly with little air as possible, and then it can be added the raw materials for dehydration and carbonization of them. At this time, the remaining carbonized compound has a basic carbon structure. Thereafter, the carbonized material is reacted with the combustion gas at 700 to 1,000 °C to form pores.

【Chemical activation method】
Manufacture method processed by impregnating with chemicals such as zinc chloride.
Impregnate the raw material into chemicals with strong dehydration power, discontinue air and activate simultaneously with carbonization at a temperature of 500 to 700 °C.
Since it has a typical pore distribution with a relatively large diameter compared to the steam activation method, it exerts excellent effects when the adsorption load such as decolorization refining is large.

【Reproduction】
Organic compounds adsorbed on activated carbon evaporate or decompose at high temperature, and desorb. In the case of using that process, it is regenerated at a high temperature of 800 to 1,000 °C under almost same conditions as in the case of activation. However, powder products are known to be difficult to regenerate.
