Application
Overview / Applications
| Outline | Sialylglycopeptide (SGP) is a glycopeptide carrying a complex-type oligosaccharide chain with two terminal sialic acid units (ref 1). This terminal structure is known to be involved in various bio-reactions. For example, hemagglutinin present on the surface of influenza virus recognizes the cell surface by exerting a chemical interaction with sialic acid (ref 2). By using this property, glyco-influenza and other pharmaceuticals (ref 3, 4). ref 1: Seko, A. et al., Biochim. Biophys. Acta.., 1335, 23-32 (1997). ref 2: Rogers, G. N. and Paulson, J. | Features | It is well known that the synthesis of structurally homogeneous carbohydrate chain is difficult due to various types of glycoside bonding. On the other hand, egg yolk is known to contain a glycopeptide with homogeneous structure. The main component is SGP. Fushimi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. have succeeded in producing SGP having homogeneous structure in a large quantity at a low production cost. Fushimi Pharmacutical Co., Ltd. hope this will open various opportunities to develop new bio-pharmaceuticals and bio-analytical reagents. |
| Purpose | # Raw material for bio-pharmaceuticals. # Analytical reagent to assay virus. # Reagent for researches in glyco science (raw material for glyco library). # Masks and air filters to catch influenza virus. |
