Fibroblast Growth Factor Chimera (FGFC)
Acidic fibroblast growth factor (FGF1, aFGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2, bFGF) are one of the well-known cytokines. These cytokines are known to act on cell growth, differentiation and survival, and have been studied extensively.
This product is a chimeric molecule that combines regions presenting the characteristic activities of FGF1 and FGF2. FGFC acts on a wide range of cells and does not require heparin for its activity. In addition, the presence of acid resistance and protease resistance has been confirmed, solving the problem of in vivo stability that remained a practical weakness of FGF1 use.
One of the original, noteworthy activities of FGF1 is how it defends against radiation damage. Since FGFC has improved in vivo stability, it can be administered to the body in advance to suppress the lethality of high-dose radiation exposure, raising expectations that it can be used to investigate the effects of radiation exposure on the body or to provide a defense mechanism against radiation damage.
