Marine Natural Products-- Phosphatase Inhibitor Okadaic acid is a causative agent of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning isolated from the sponge Halichondria Okadai. Okadaic Acid exhibits various activities as follows: Contractile effect on smooth muscles in Ca²⁺ free solution. Non-TPA type promoting agent of carcinogenesis. Acceleration of protein phosphorylation through the specific inhibition of phosphatase. Solubility Soluble in ether, acetone and ethyl acetate. Very slightly soluble in chloroform and methanol.
