Cyanotoxin and Marine Organism-derived Toxin

Marine organism-derived toxins are natural toxins found in fish and seafood, and can cause food poisoning. These toxins, which exist not only in fish and seafood but also in marine microorganisms, microalgae including planktons, and seaweeds, are bioconcentrated by the food chain, and can cause poisoning in humans who consume them. In Japan, food poisoning occurs every year with fugu toxin (tetrodotoxin) and bivalves (oysters, scallops, etc.) being the main culprits. This has led to regulation and control under the Food Sanitation Act.

In addition, with changes in the global climate, the distribution of toxins is also changing, and the area in which food poisoning occurs has been expanding. Research on various marine toxins is being conducted worldwide.

Fujifilm Wako offers a wide range of test and research reagents and kits for various marine toxins, including okadaic acid, palytoxin, and ciguatoxin.
