Cereulide

Bacillus cereus is a gram-positive bacterium found in various environments and often causes food poisoning, especially vomiting and diarrhea. The diarrheal form is common in North America and Northern Europe, and the emetic form occurs predominantly in Japan and the United Kingdom.

The emetic toxin in food poisoning associated with Bacillus cereus has been isolated from culture solutions of Bacillus cereus and is called cereulide. Because of its heat resistance, it does not decompose during food processing.
