Outline	Surfactants are amphiphilic substances having a hydrophilic atomic group and a hydrophobic atomic group within their molecules. They are classified into ionic surfactants that dissociate to ions when dissolved in water and nonionic surfactants that do not dissociate to ions. In this case, ionic surfactants are classified into anionic, cationic and ampholytic surfactants depending on the type of electric charge when dissociated. The product is a non-ionic surfactant whose uses include emulsifiers, dispersants, solubilizers and detergents, and which may also be used as a solubilizer for membrane protein.
