Outline	Same structure as and equivalent to Triton X-100.(Basic) reagent for biochemistry. A non-ionic surfactant, ether type, a polyoxyethylene alkylphenylether. It is quite stable to acids, alkalis and hydrolysis because it contains no ester bond.It is used as a rinsing or dispersing agent, and also as a solubilizing agent for proteins or a cytolysis solution.Unlike ionic surfactants, it has mild effects on proteins. The solubilized protein can be purified using ion exchange chromatography or isoelectric focusing electrophoresis.
