Application
Overview / Applications
Outline | A common name of osmium oxide (VIII) and its solution. It is an important starting material for various osmium compounds. It has strong oxidizing action and is used in organic synthesis as an oxidizing agent and a catalyst. 1 % solution in particular is referred to as "osmic acid" and used as a fixing agent for microscopic examination. OsO4 vapor has an irritating odor, is toxic, affects particularly ocular membranes, and is also harmful to respiratory organs. As compared to the special grade, this product has smaller amounts of involatile matter, has practical solution clarity and improved standards. |
