Outline	A common name of osmium oxide (VIII) and its solution. It is an important starting material for various osmium compounds. It has strong oxidizing action and is used in organic synthesis as an oxidizing agent and a catalyst. 1 % solution in particular is referred to as "osmic acid" and used as a fixing agent for microscopic examination. OsO4 vapor has an irritating odor, is toxic, affects particularly ocular membranes, and is also harmful to respiratory organs. As compared to the special grade, this product has smaller amounts of involatile matter, has practical solution clarity and improved standards. Fixation means a process by which when observing microscopically the ecological or pathological state of a tissue specimen taken from a dead or live body, the tissue specimen is preserved in as "intact" a state as possible. The objectives are to:- Stabilize the main constituent protein of the tissue specimen as fast as possible to stop autolysis.- Minimize the degeneration and deformation of the tissue specimen due to the effects of chemicals and heat during the subsequent specimen preparation process.__It is used as a fixing agent for an electron microscopic specimen, and for preventing the spillage of triglyceride in the tissue specimen treatment process and fixing proteins.The product is contained in a glass ample because it is volatile and has strong protein denaturing action. To prepare solutions, remove the label, wash the ample clearly, immerge the ample in chromic sulfuric acid to decompose organic matter and reductive materials, wash with water and distilled water, and cut the ample in clean state or place the ample in distilled water and break the ample.
