Overview / Applications

Outline This product is for research use only. Do not administer it to human.

Icilin is an agonist of TRPM8 and TRPA1.
TRPM8 is a known cold sensor, which has been considered to become active at below 25-28℃ ; however, a recent study has reported that the reaction temperature is depending on external temperature. TRPM8 is also activated by menthol.
TRPA1 was fist reported as a channel activated by cold stimuli below 17℃. Besides cold stimuli, the channel is also activated by allyl isothiocyanate and cinnamaldehyde, the active components of mustard and cinnamon, respectively, and considered to be involved in pain transduction. The channel has also been reported to be involved in respiratory regulation.
